Aussies’ first test in Jaipur today
Jaipur, September 26 While both teams would announce their playing eleven tomorrow, Chappell would once again be in focus as he is the head coach of the RCA Academy, from where many players of RCA-XI have been chosen. He is also coaching the visiting Kangaroos. The two-day match would be played on a batting wicket as the indications given by ground staff sources were. Sources said Chappell and Ponting have asked for a batting-friendly wicket with some turn as well. They said the batsman wanted to spend some time in the middle as well as to face the spin challenge also. Australia may have to sit out spinner Brice McGain as he reportedly not fit. He skipped training yesterday. The only official word about his condition was given by Australian wicketkeeper Brad Haddin, who said McGain had trained excessively and was given rest for today's training. The match means a lot for RCA players like Pankaj Singh, Robin Bisht, Ashok Menarro and their captain Venugopal Rao, all of whom were trying for a berth in the Indian team. Of those Pankaj Singh was the closest to make it as he was already a part of Indian test team recently but could not get match. The six-and-a-half feet tall burly pacer has already made a mark by troubling Aussie batsmen, especially Ponting during net practice. Pankaj would be playing the Boards President XI match against Australia at Hyderabad also, Venugopal Rao, captain of the RCA XI, who was expected to reach here from Chandigarh late at night only, was also trying to make a comeback to the Indian team. PTI adds: The match will also give chances to visiting team captain Ricky Ponting and key opener Matthew Hayden to spend time in the middle in Indian conditions following injury lay-offs. Ponting, who has a dismal record in India scoring 172 from 14 innings, would want to spend time in the middle as long as possible with nothing at stake. It will also be a chance for rookies like pacers Dough Bollinger and Peter Siddle and spinner Jason Krezja to have some experience of match conditions in India. Another rookie spinner Bryce McGain though is likely to sit out tomorrow as he is recovering from a shoulder problem he sustained during Australia A's match against India A. The 90-over match will start from 0900 hrs and both sides can field only 11 players. RCA Chief Curator Taposh Chatterjee said tomorrow's pitch at Sawai Mansingh Stadium will be a conventional Indian flat pitch with lots of runs in it. Squads: Australia: Ricky Ponting (Captain), Doug Bollinger, Stuart Clark, Michael Clarke, Brad Haddin, Matthew Hayden, Michael Hussey, Phil Jaques, Mitchell Johnson, Simon Katich, Jason Krejza, Brett Lee, Bryce McGain, Peter Siddle and Shane Watson. RCA:
Gagan Khoda (Captain), Gajendra Singh, Sumit Mathur, Robin Bist, Nikhil Doru, Shailender Gehlot, Rohit Jhalani (wk), Ashok Menaria, Mohan Singh, Pankaj Singh, Vineet Saxena, Shubhanshu Vijay.

India A sink without trace
Chennai, September 26 Much was expected from the Indian team, after its three consecutive wins in the league phase, but chasing 304 in 50 overs, the batsmen surrendered meekly and were bowled out for 147 in 32 overs, making the final a lopsided affair. Put into bat, the Australians came up with a superb all-round effort by piling up 303 runs with inform David Hussey (75), captain Cameron White (50) and Adam Voges (55 not out) among the runs. Then the bowlers led by Brett Geeves (3/41), Shaun Tait (1/22) and Ashley Noffke (2/31) tore the star-studded Indian batting line up to power their team to a comprehensive win. Their fielders also gave tremendous support to the bowlers by coming up with some superb catches. India had raised expectations after their comfortable three wicket win over the Aussies in the last league match to cap the back-to-back victories over New Zealand, but came a cropper with the batsmen, barring Rohit Sharma (46) failing to take up the challenge on the flat M A Chidambaram wicket. After India were tottering at 65 for six in 12 overs, Sharma (63m, 37b, 6x4, 2x6) put up the only noteworthy partnership of (40) with Saha (27 not out) for the seventh wicket, but he too departed six overs later. The insipid display came as a big disappointment to the unexpected crowd of over 15,000 that had thronged the stadium for a match at this level despite being a working day. Vadodara, September 26 The Anil Kumble-led Rest of India set Delhi a stiff target of 378 on a fast-wearing track and then Zaheer Khan strike early double blow including the prized scalp of Virender Sehwag (8) to take the sting out of Delhi's riposte, reducing them to 113 for three. Gambhir found a gritty ally in Rajat Bhatia (31) and the duo cobbled together 76 runs to steady the ship before the right-hander fell to Harbhajan Singh in the last delivery of the day. Gambhir's unbeaten 51 included eight hits to the fence and Delhi's hopes to score another 268 runs for a memorable win would centre around the attacking left-hander. With Aakash Chopra nursing a twisted ankle, Sehwag walked out to open with Gambhir but was back in the hut soon after Zaheer Khan trapped the Delhi captain in the third over of the day. Virat Kohli contributed 16 before departing in the same manner, leaving the side in a precarious situation. Sehwag complains against Munaf
Delhi captain Virender Sehwag today lodged a complaint with the match referee against his India teammate Munaf Patel, accusing the lanky pacer of abusing him during the ongoing Irani Cup.
Munaf had apparently abused Sehwag when he was batting and that miffed the Delhi captain, who felt enough was enough. Sehwag lodged a complaint with match referee RR Jadeja against Munaf, who allegedly had also foulmouthed Ishant Sharma in the match. "Yes, I have received an official complaint from the Delhi captain about a certain player's behaviour," Jadeja told reporters, though he refused to disclose the name of the player. |

EB's second goal came ten minutes later from recruit Yusuf Yakubu, a Ghanian, who enjoys a reputation of being a goal-scoring machine. India international Sunil Chettri, who was picked up Man of the match, scored East Bengal's third and final goal in the 28th minute, latching on to a ball from Edmilson. The consolation goal for United was scored by Sankar Oraon as his left footer completely beat Subrata Pal. —
