The charge: Illegal possession of foreign brand live cartridges |
Siwan, September 26
A local special court today awarded 10 years of rigorous imprisonment to incarcerated RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin for illegally possessing foreign brand live cartridges.
Pronouncing the judgement, additional district and sessions magistrate Gyaneshwar Srivastav also slapped a fine of Rs 15,000 on the MP, lodged in Siwan jail in connection with several criminal cases.
In case the convict fails to submit the fine, he will have to serve the jail term for an additional one year.
As per the charges, a special team of the police recovered 200 foreign brand cartridges and laser pistols during a raid at Pratapur-based residence of the MP under the Hussanganj police station in the district on April 24, 2005.
The court, however, exonerated the MP and two others for want of evidence in connection with another case related to forcibly taking away an accused from police custody.
