Day 1: Farmers fail to
procure seed

Ludhiana, September 18
A large number of farmers from across the
state were left high and dry on inaugural
day of the Kisan Mela here today when
they could not procure seeds allegedly
due to ‘‘mismanagement’’ and ‘‘preferential
treatment’’ being given to a select few.

PSEB imposes more restrictions on industry

Finding it difficult to cope with the worsening power situation in the state and under fire from people for imposing power cuts ranging from six to eight hours in urban areas for quite some time now, the Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) has raised the compulsory weekly off for industrial units in category I and II from one to two days with immediate effect.

VC to probe charges against DSW

The controversy of taking a charge of girls hostels of Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) from Director Students Welfare (DSW), Dr Dulcha Singh Brar, about 20 days back, took a new turn after vice chancellor (VC) Dr M.S.Kang today made a statement that orders were not issued on the "administrative grounds" alone and an enquiry will be conducted to probe charges against Dr Brar.
