Don’s brother Anees detained in Jeddah?
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, August 12
Less then two weeks the new CBI director Ashwani Kumar expressed the desire to nab underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, the agency may have got a clue on the whereabouts of Anees Ibrahim, a brother of the don.

Sources in the CBI said today the Saudi Arabian authorities had been requested to verify media reports and also other reports about the detention of Anees Ibrahim.

The CBI query comes following reports that Anees had been detained at the Jeddah airport.

Sources confirmed that the Saudi authorities had been approached regarding the detention. Anees, along with his brother Dawood, is wanted by the CBI for his involvement in the 1993 serial bomb blasts in Mumbai. A red corner notice has been issued to nab him.

Anees had been detained earlier in Dubai in 2002 after which he was bailed out and deported to Pakistan. The CBI could not lay hands on him. However, the changed global scene and ongoing war against terrorism could help India this time around.

Anees is alleged to be involved in providing the logistics for bringing in youth for training in Karachi. Indian agencies believe that youths trained in Karachi are shifted to Mumbai for subversive attacks at selected places in the country. At least two persons whose names have cropped up in the recent blasts in Ahmedabad have been found to have visited the house of Anees in Karachi.

So far, Anees has enjoyed a free run in the Middle East. He was detained by the Dubai authorities in 1996 but was let off. He was again arrested in Bahrain in the late nineties and sent off to Dubai, from where he was released.
