Pak
behind Indian embassy blast: Karzai
Kabul, July 14
Afghan President Hamid Karzai today
said Pakistani agents were behind the Indian embassy bombing in Kabul
last week, the first time he has directly accused Pakistan of
involvement in the suicide attack. Afghan officials have previously said
the July 7 attack bore all the hallmarks of a foreign intelligence
agency but stopped short of naming any country.
Military
action against Iran: India calls for restraint

India today expressed grave concern
over reports suggesting the imminent use of military force against Iran
and said a military strike on the Islamic nation would have
‘disastrous consequences’ for the entire region, affecting the lives
and livelihood of five million Indians in the Gulf and the world
economy.

IPL:
Asif fails dope test
Mumbai, July 14
Mohammad Asif, the Pakistani fast
bowler with a drug-tainted past, has now tested positive for doping in
the recently concluded IPL series. The Board of Control for Cricket in
India (BCCI) organisers of the IPL series today revealed that Asif had
tested positive for taking a banned performance enhancing substance.
Justice
Chandrachud dead
Mumbai, July 14
Former Chief Justice of India,
Justice Y.V. Chandrachud, died here this morning after a brief illness.
He was 88.The late judge is survived by his wife Prabha and son
Dhananjay Chandrachud, who is a sitting judge at the Bombay High Court.
According to sources, Chandrachud fell ill on Saturday shortly after
celebrating his 88th birthday. He was rushed to the Bombay Hospital,
where he breathed his last this morning.
Monsoon
has been good, well distributed: PAU
Ludhiana, July 14
Monsoon in Punjab has generally
been good and covered most of parts of the state. This year monsoon
arrived nearly 15 days early, but it was well distributed in June. This
rain has been beneficial for the transplantation of paddy, and also for
sugarcane and horticultural crops. For cotton and some vegetable crops,
it has not been so good.
