Shock and dejection at BSE on Friday.New Delhi, June 20
In a major embarrassment for the UPA government, inflation, powered by high fuel prices, has raced to 13-year high of 11.05 per cent for the week ended June 7. A rise of 7.8 per cent in fuel, power and lubricants prices and a 14 per cent surge in ATF prices have been the main cause of surging inflation.

Nuclear wheeling and dealing hots up
New Delhi, June 20
The UPA government is hoping to be bailed out by the SP and the BSP if the Left carries through its threat of support withdrawal on the Indo-US nuclear deal, and the opposition BJP moves a no-confidence motion. Meanwhile, the government made one more effort today through external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee, who held separate meetings at his residence with CPM general secretary Prakash Karat and CPI national secretary D Raja and persuaded them to agree to India signing the nuclear safeguards agreement with the IAEA.

Ludhiana, June 20
Twelve years ago, Shambhu Kumar and his family came to Punjab from Bihar to earn a living. Today, in a first of its kind, they are about to rule the destiny of Kanganwal village in Ludhiana district.
