Rs 5 lakh relief for Sarita’s daughters
Rohtak, June 11 Rohtak SSP Hanif Qureshi was among the first ones to face the wrath of Sarita’s family members, who criticised the police failure in taking prompt action against the policemen who had allegedly raped the woman. Initially, the family members of the deceased refused even to accept the Rs 5 lakh cheque of compensation from deputy commissioner P.C.Meena, who had gone to their house. They also asserted that Sarita’s body would not be cremated until the “rapists” were arrested and the compensation amount increased. Members of different opposition parties and other organisations staged demonstrations and submitted memorandums to the administrative officials. These included the CPM, the HJC, the BJP and social and women’s organisations. Activists of certain such organisations also made things tougher for the administrative officials trying to convince Sarita’s family to cremate her body. However, after persuasion by the deputy commissioner, Sarita’s husband Subhash and other family members cremated the body in the evening. The Chief Minister’s political aides, Capt Chatar Singh and J.K.Malhotra, played a key role in tackling the matter. Apart from getting Rs 5 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, Sarita’s family was also assured of all possible help from the government. “We assured them that the daughters of the deceased would be helped in getting admission to some educational institution, besides adjusting her husband in some job,” Meena said while talking to The Tribune after the cremation. The deputy commissioner said the said amount would be kept in two fixed deposit accounts of Rs 2.5 lakh each in the name of the two daughters of Sarita. Meanwhile, besides transferring the Rohtak range IGP, district SSP and a DSP in connection with the case, the police authorities also sent all members of the local CIA staff to the police lines. However, no arrests had been made till the time of filing of this report. |

HAU improves conventional mustard oil
Hisar, June 11 Senior scientists of the Oil and Seed Department of the HAU have prepared three blends of oil for marketing purpose having mustard content as the main base of the mixture, HAU sources said here today. Senior biochemist Kamal Dhavan, who has worked on these blends, said the present trend of globalisation and emphasis on nutritional enrichment had led to exploration of usage of such oils that might contain the required ratio of fatty acids. ''No single conventional Indian cooking oil has balanced fatty acids, no proper ratio of omega-3 and omega-6. This is true for mustard oil also, but by upgrading it with blending, we have achieved the required nutrition,'' she said. The evolved blends of oil, it is claimed, would prove healthy for one and all because the contents have been balanced as to prove beneficial for heart, bones and brain. Dean of Agricultural College S.S. Pahuja said: ''The research and its results are very encouraging but we shall have to work more on the blends to make it possible for common use with minimum possible cost.'' — UNI |
