Jalandhar, May 21 Having achieved cent per cent marks in accountancy, 98 in business studies, 96 in economics, 95 in mathematics and 90 in English, Swati seemed much elated. Daughter of a leather chemical dealer, she has plans to do B.Com from Sri Ram College in Delhi and thereafter appear for an IAS exam. “I have always believed in self-studies and have never taken tuitions. My elder sister, Saloni, who is doing her B.Com with CA has been my guide throughout,” she explained. Close to her is Anamjyot Kaur, a student of Army Public School, who has scored 95.4 per cent marks in the non-medical stream. A cantonment resident here, she has scored cent per cent marks in physics and computer sciences, 99 in mathematics, 97 in chemistry and 81 in English. She too believes in self-study and aims to become a computer engineer. Jyoti of Swami Sant Dass School has attained 94.8 per cent marks in medical stream. Little behind her is MGN Public School student Harsimar Singh who has got 94.2 per cent. Harsimar, who has got 99 marks in biotechnology, has qualified the written entrance test of the AFMC and Manipal and is currently preparing for the AIMS entrance test scheduled to be held on June 1. In the same stream, Ankita and Richa of Swami Sant Dass School have got 93.8 per cent and 92.6 per cent, respectively. Ruchira Wadhwa and Namita Malhotra of MGN Public School have got 93 and 91.4 per cent marks, respectively. Among non-medical students, Apeejay girl Aditi Salwan has got 93.2 per cent marks. Meenakshi Kapoor of Swami Sant Dass School and Sahil Aggarwal of Innocent Hearts School have obtained 92.2 per cent marks. Tanu of Swami Sant Dass School has also got 91.8 per cent marks. Gaurav Puri of MGN Public School and Aravdeep Singh of Apeejay School have got 91.2 per cent marks. Among commerce students, Kajal Khurana of Innocent Hearts School has got 93.2 per cent marks. Kanav Dua and Arjun Aggarwal of the same school follow with 92.6 and 92.2 per cent marks, respectively. Kanu Priya Sharma of Dayanand Model School has also got 92.6 per cent marks. Police DAV School student Nitika Kapila has got 92.2 per cent marks. Anshu Arora and Birender Kaur of Shiv Jyoti Public School have got 92 and 91 per cent marks, respectively. Palak and Pankaj of Apeejay School have got 91.8 and 91 per cent marks, respectively. In humanities stream, Girija Suri of Apeejay School has scored 90.4 per cent marks. |

Jalandhar, May 21 She has got 99 marks in environmental education and computer science, 98 in Punjabi, 95 in science, 94 in mathematics and 90 in English. Daughter of district revenue officer, Nawanshahr, Sukhwinder Singh Dhillon, Tanroop has now joined a school in Chandigarh. Her mother, Ravinder Kaur, who is a teacher in KV-3, said her daughter studied overnight, especially in the examination days to attain good marks. Just one number behind her is Jassica Sakhuja who has got 668 marks out of 700. Amreen Kaur stands on the third position with 665 marks. Anureet, Sargun and Shefali have all scored 663 marks. As many as 46 of the 152 girls from the school have got above 90 per cent marks, said Sister Sophie, principal of the school. Kirti Rana of the school obtained 99 per marks in Hindi.

Law graduates get words of inspiration from CJ
Jalandhar, May 21 Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Vijender Jain was the chief guest. In his address, he mentioned the importance of education in transforming any nation to a developed one. He stated that India is fortunate to have a strong young population that could help India become a strong nation. “The only thing the youth require is the direction to achieve the milestones and education is the only force that can guide these young minds,” he stressed. Five students, who had attained positions in the merit list, were awarded gold medal by the chief guest. The annual report was presented by chancellor of Lovely Professional University Ashok Mittal in which he apprised the gathering of the future plans for the institute. Eighteen candidates of the Lovely Centre of Competitive Examination who joined the State Judicial Services of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh were honoured. Of these, 15 were of Punjab, two of Haryana and one of Himachal Pradesh. |

Day after, medical services go for a toss

The patients had a virtually tough day as nearly all the hospitals, including private, charitable and even the civil hospital, kept the OPD services closed. Hundreds of doctors from various hospitals joined the strike which started at 10 am and continued till 1 pm. Expressing concern over the violent incident, which led to an irate mob ransacking the hospital and bashing up Dr Ashutosh Gupta, who runs the nursing home, IMA president of the Jalandhar chapter Dr Kapil Gupta demanded immediate action against the erring family members of the deceased. “The police should arrest those responsible for the ruckus. — TNS |
Two girls gang-raped in Hoshiarpur
Hoshiarpur, May 21 According to police sources, the girls went to attend a “jagran” at the village. At about midnight, both girls went to relieve themselves at a nearby place from where Jasbir Singh, Gulshan Kumar, both of Dadaran, Surjit Singh of Sharak and Rajiv Kumar of Jalal Chack abducted them and took them to a nearby field where they gang raped them. The Hajipur police has booked the four under sections 376, 354, 506 and 34 of the IPC. |
