Inflation
at 42-month high
New
Delhi/Bangalore, May 2
Inflation soared to a
42-month high of 7.57 per cent for the week ended April 19 on
account of higher prices of vegetables, food articles, steel
and some fuel items. The wholesale price-based inflation rose
0.24 percentage points from 7.33 per cent in the previous week
despite concerted efforts by the government and the Reserve
Bank to check price rise. |

aircraft off-target
27 yrs on and Rs 165 cr later,
it fails to meet IAF norms
Chandigarh, May 2
The ministry of defence cleared
bulk production of indigenously developed pilotless target aircraft
(PTA) without evaluating their performance. This led to the Air Force
putting a hold on its induction, thereby seriously affecting training of
pilots and missile crew. The IAF, as a result, has also withdrawn its
commitment to the PTA’s follow-on development programme in favour of
imports.
