Pawar rules out bonus on wheat
Chandigarh, April 7
Union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar here today virtually ruled out the possibility of bonus on wheat. Though Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and his counterpart from Haryana Bhupinder Singh Hooda pressed Pawar hard for announcing bonus for wheat, he refused to yield.

K’taka, AP notify Sikhs as minorities
New Delhi, April 7
Sikhs may not be a minority in Punjab, as recently ruled by the Supreme Court, but they now enjoy minority status in some other states of India. In a significant development, state governments of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh have notified Sikhs as minority communities.

The markets surged today with the Sensex gaining 2.7 per cent or 414 points to close at 15, 757 levels on the back of positive showing globally. In the broader markets, Nifty of the National Stock Exchange also shot up by 114.20 points or 2.46 per cent to close at 4,761.20 from its last close of 4,647.

Former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani’s book “My country, my life” has run into yet another controversy. This time the Sikh community here has taken umbrage at the reference to the events in the days preceding Operation Bluestar in June 1984. Reacting to reference on page 430 of the book, the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee has sought an apology from Advani and the BJP for its alleged “role of an instigator” in the days preceding the Operation.
