Tibet tide Dalai Lama
ready for talks McLeodganj, March 20
The Dalai Lama has said that he was
willing to meet Chinese President Hu Jintao and other leaders for a
dialogue to resolve the Tibet issue. He announced this in a hurriedly
called press conference here today.
Pelosi to hold talks today
Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy
Pelosi will arrive in Dharamsala today to hold a
dialogue with the Dalai Lama and the PM of the
Tibetan government-in-exile.

does it again: Staff smoke, employers pay New Delhi, March

Individuals smoking in
their offices will now invite penalty for their institutions
as part of the Union Health Ministry’s crackdown on smoking
in public places. “If one person is caught smoking, the fine
would be Rs 5,000 for the institution, if two persons are
caught it would be Rs 10,000 while if three persons are caught
it would be Rs 15,000,” health minister Anbumani Ramadoss
told reporters in New Delhi on Thursday.
Sarabjit
case: India rules out prisoner exchange New Delhi,

India has ruled out
release of any Pakistani prisoner in exchange for Indian
national Sarabjit Singh who is placed on the death row for
his alleged involvement in bomb blasts in Lahore and Multan
in 1990.
Sharma’s
sentence reserved New Delhi,

A Delhi court today
reserved its order on the quantum of sentence against
convicted IPS officer R.K. Sharma in the Shivani Bhatnagar
murder case for March 24 even as the prosecution sought
death penalty for him.
Suspension
of Virk stayed
Mumbai, March 20
The Central
Administrative Tribunal has stayed the suspension of former
Punjab DGP Sarbdeep Singh Virk by Punjab government in a
case of alleged disproportionate asset and asked the
Central, Maharashtra and Punjab governments to file their
reply within two weeks.

Cabinet gave its approval for taking up the development of Anandpur
Sahib and Talwandi Sabo in Punjab as commemorative projects under the
Tri-Centenary celebrations of Guru-ta-Gaddi of Shri Guru Granth Sahib in

soldiers killed during war games Pokhran, March 20
Three soldiers were killed and two
injured when the barrel of a mortar burst during the Army’s largest
field war games, Brazen Chariots, here yesterday. Sources said the
incident took place at around 2 pm yesterday while a light artillery
regiment was undertaking range-firing practice.
Olympic Qualifier Women plan a
real ‘Chak De’ Shahbad Markanda, March 20
When the Indian women’s hockey
team leaves for St. Petersburg, Russia, next month to play in the
Olympic qualifier on April 16, they hope of coming back with the
winner’s medal. The team that has been selected for the Russian
tournaments will have seven players from Shahbad Markanda, the only
women’s hockey nursery of the colony today.
