Kapurthala, March 11
A CBI team arrested Rail Coach Factory chief engineer J.K. Singla while taking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh from a representative of Chandigarh-based Vinod Construction Company here today.

The 12-member CBI team from Chandigarh was reportedly led by ASP Amandeep. It arrested Singla from his official residence at Type V housing complex on the factory premises soon after he accepted the bribe, sources said.

The sources said the company had constructed several sheds at the factory some time ago. Singla was allegedly demanding Rs 7 lakh for the clearance of the bills for the work worth Rs 2 crore.

Representatives of the company had lodged a complaint with the CBI, which laid a trap this morning when an advance payment of Rs 1 lakh against the total bribe amount was to be made. The team also carried out a search at his house that continued for about three hours.

According to the sources, the CBI team seized some documents. However, ASP Amandeep refused to say anything about the seizure.

Singla has been placed under suspension. Senior PRO Gurjit Singh confirmed the orders.
