Kaypee, Chaudhry face code violation probe

An inquiry has been ordered against two Congress candidates, Mr Mohinder Singh Kaypee, who is seeking re-election from Jalandhar (South), and Chaudhry Jagjit Singh, Kartarpur, for violating the Model Code of Conduct while filing their papers here today.

The candidates reportedly took a crowd of supporters while filing their nomination papers before the SDM here. Candidates of recognized parties can take only six supporters while filing their papers while Independent candidates are allowed 10.

The Additional DC has been asked to make his inquiry and file his report on the violation of the Code. As many as 47 candidates filed their nomination papers for in Jalandhar district today.

The candidates are: Adampur: Kanwaljit Singh Lalli and Sukhwinder Singh Lalli (Congress), Surjit Singh, Parwinder Singh and Rakesh Kumar (BSP). Jalandhar (Cantonment): Ms Ravnit Kaur (SAD). Jalandhar (North): Mr Bachan Singh and Mr Pritpal Singh (BSP) and Mr Rachhpal Singh (Democratic Bhartiya Samaj). Jalandhar (Central): Mr Parminder Singh (Lok Jan Shakti), Mr Ashok Kumar, Ms Jasbir Kaur, Mr Digvijay (BSP), Mr Pankaj Soni (Shiv Sena-Hindustan), Mr Dharmendra Singh (Democratic Bhartiya Samaj) and Mr Sham Sharma (Punjab Vikas Congress). Jalandhar (South): Mr Mohinder Singh Kaypee, Ms Suman Kaypee (Congress) and Mr Vinod Kumar (BSP-A). Kartarpur: Chaudhary Jagjit Singh, Ms Neena Kapil Dev (Congress), Mr Rajpal (BSP-A), Mr Rajinder Kumar (Shiv Sena-Hindustan) and Mr Makhan Lal (Independent). Lohian: Mr Ajit Singh Kohar, Ms Nasib Kaur (SAD), Mr Balwant Singh (Lok Bhalai Party), Mr Joginder Singh (Democratic Bhartiya Samaj), Mr Balwinder Singh, Mr Darshan Singh (BSP) and Mr Pritam Chand (BSP-A). Nakodar: Mr Mohinder Pal Singh (BSP), Mr Kuldip Singh (SAD), Mr Gurpartap Singh (SAD), Mr Joginder Singh (BSP-A) and Mr Ram Sarup (BSP). Noormahl: Mr Gurdeep Singh and Ms Rajinder Kaur (SAD). Phillaur: Mr Manak Ram (Independent), Mr Tejpal Momi (Phule Bhartiya Lok Bhartiya), Mr Damanvir Singh (Independent) and Mr Lal Chand (BSP).

Nawanshahr: As many as 12 candidates filed their nomination papers for the Vidha Sabha polls from Nawanshahr constituencies today.

These included four candidates from Banga, two from Nawanshahr and six from Balachaur. The Banga nominees include Mr Tarlochan Singh Soondh, his wife, Ms Meena Kumari, as a covering candidate, Mr Baldev Singh Ghai, an independent candidate, and a Congress rebel, Mr Pakhar Singh Nimana, also contesting independently.

From Nawanshahr, Ms Satvinder, wife of SAD candidate, Mr Jatinder Singh Kariha, filed her nominations as a covering candidate while Mr Kariha had submitted his papers yesterday. Mr Naseeb Chand of the Lok Jan Shakti party also filed his nomination papers from the constituency.

Six candidates who filed their nominations from Balachaur are Mandhir Singh from SAD (Mann), Ranvir Singh Bhatti, an independent candidate, Hargopal Singh from BSP, Gurnam Dass, a BSP covering candidate, Mr Ram Lok Singh from Shiv Sena Hindustan.
