Nawanshahr, January 22 Mr Lal came to file his nomination papers along with a cavalcade of nearly 100 cars, took more than five party members to the DC office and indulged in sloganeering. The district administration today passed the directions after seeking the report from Assistant Commissioner (grievances)-cum-Returning Officer. The report said: “The candidate proceeded towards Nawanshahr in a big convoy of vehicles numbering about hundred. Supervisors were directed to note down the number of vehicles. One of the supervisors noted the vehicle numbers of about 57 till Dhahan Kaleran. His version was supported by another supervisor who was able to note down 48 vehicles.” The report also mentioned that many vehicles were parked in the premises of the DC office. Videography was also got done by the administration when the convoy entered the city and CD was also generated. The videography also supports the information of the supervisors, it is learnt. The report also mentions that the candidate and his nearly 200 supporters raised slogans in favour of the candidate in DC office premises. The Returning Officer recommended that cases be registered against Mr Mohan Lal under section 123 (2) of Representation of Peoples’ Act (undue influence), Section 133 of the act (illegal hiring of conveyances) and Section 188 of IPC (disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant). It also ordered that vehicles, over and above the three sanctioned vehicles, be impounded till the elections were over. He also wrote that a communication be sent to Election Commission of India regarding violation of ‘Model Code of Conduct’ by the candidate. Meanwhile, the CPM candidate from Banga, Mr Balwinder Singh, and his covering candidate, Mr Davinder Pal, also filed their nominations. |

Jalandhar, January 22 Announcing this at a press conference here today, Mr Ravi Inder Singh said farmers should be allowed to sell their land on market rate and his party was against the policy in which the state government acted as a middleman between seller (big companies) and buyer (farmers). The issue would be included in his party’s manifesto, which would be released on Friday, he added. Mr Ravi Inder alleged that the SAD was working against the principles of Sikh panth. |

Jalandhar, January 22 Those who filed nominations were Mr Amarjit Singh Samra, Congress candidate and sitting MLA from Nakodar; Mr Avinash Chander, SAD candidate from Kartarpur; Mr Gurbinder Singh Atwal, sitting Congress MLA and candidate from Phillaur; and Mr Raj Kumar, BSP candidate from Jalandhar South. The Independent candidates included Mr Des Raj Jassal from Kartarpur; Mr Pritam Singh Parmar from Jalandhar (Central); Ms Shashi from Phillaur; and Mr Diggar Singh from Lohian. The remaining all were covering candidates. Mr Avinash Chander came in an open jeep decorated with flowers to file his papers. Accompanying him were nearly 100 persons who came in more than 15 cars. Dalit candidate Chander has declared his assets worth Rs 1.11 crore. The tannery owner and resident of Bootan Mandi, he has showed his cash worth Rs 10,000; deposits to the tune of Rs 14.17 lakh; bonds worth Rs 60,000; mutual funds Rs 10 lakh; provident funds Rs 3.45 lakh; insurance Rs 2.65 lakh; jewellery Rs 91,400; capital Rs 3.7 lakh; and non-agricultural land Rs 75 lakh. His liabilities also amounted to Rs 4.31 lakh. A complete reverse was the profile of his rival Independent candidate, Mr Des Raj Jassal, a Municipal Corporation councillor. An under-matric, his assets included Rs 50,000 cash, Rs 25,000 deposits, 3 tolas of gold and other assets worth Rs 25,000. Mr Pritam Singh Parmar, another Independent candidate, filed the nomination from Jalandhar (Central). The candidate came in a jeep, wearing a few garlands, accompanied by 10-odd supporters. The jeep had a banner in front and two saffron flags on either side. There were two drummers to escort him to the district administration complex. A first timer and matriculate, he came with most of his documents incomplete or unattested. It took staff of the Returning Officer, Mr Bhupinder Singh, more than half an hour to get his file completed before he could formally submit it. Even not aware about the amount of nomination fee that was to be deposited, he paid Rs 5,100 instead of Rs 5,000. The additional amount was then returned to him. From Jalandhar South, Mr Raj Kumar, a BSP candidate, filed his papers. |

Randhawa, Wildlife Officer, said the head of male wild boar, its foreleg and hind leg, its meat, one stick, four sharp-edged weapons and one wooden log were seized from them. Their accomplice Vijay managed to escape. He said they were booked under the Schedule 3 of the Wild Life Protection Act, 1972. Under Section 51 of this Schedule, imprisonment up to 3 years or fine of Re 25,000 or both could be imposed. They were produced before the Duty Magistrate who granted their judicial remand up to February 3, 2007. |
