Poll duty casts shadow on examination process

The forthcoming MC elections are posing hindrance in conducting the December examinations that are underway in most of the government schools in the city. The reason: 85 to 90 per cent teachers of most of these schools have been deputed by the Election Commission to conduct the MC elections scheduled to be held on December 20.

Such ‘national’ seminars serve little purpose

The whole world is a village and for Panjab University and its colleges, ‘national’ has come to mean ‘neighbourhood’. ‘National seminars’ organised by the university and some of its affiliated colleges are increasingly becoming ‘neighbourhood’ seminars. For colleges, faculty members from PU are just good enough to inau- gurate these seminars and deliver keynote addresses and as for the university if no one is available from Delhi, what is the problem, it has the next best option, get the seminar inaugura- ted by the head of a sister department.

City fascinates German teacher

Ms Ulrike Boecking came to India by chance. After teaching fine arts for 10 years in her homeland, Germany, she decided to teach in a foreign country and was finally sent to India. Working as the Vice-Principal at the German School, New Delhi, at present Ulrike also happens to teach German as a foreign language at the Max Mueller Bhawan, New Delhi.
