Chandigarh, November 11
It is now the turn of the Punjab Police Service (PPS) officers to demand for raising of their retirement age from 58 to 60. Realising that the Congress government in the state has conceded most of the demands of its employees, the PPS Officers Association has decided to join the bandwagon of those civil service associations which want that the retirement age of civil servants of state service should be on a par with the Central Civil Services.
The Additional President of the PPS Officers Association, Mr Sarabjit Singh Pandher, has appealed to the Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, to raise the retirement age of PPS officers to 60 years on the Government of India pattern.
All Central Government employees and the Central services officers like IAS, IPS and other allied services serving in the states retire at the age of 60 years whereas the state employees working under them retire at the age of 58 years. To maintain parity in service conditions, many states have also raised the retirement age of their employees on the pattern of the Central Government, says Mr Pandher.
He says the Forth Punjab Pay Commission also recommended raising of retirement age to 60 years. The empowered committee, constituted under Mr B.R. Bajaj, Principal Secretary, by the state government to consider the demands of employees, also recommended to enhance the retirement age to 60 years.
