And he has resolved to cover 5,800 km to visit all 117 Assembly segments in the next two and a half months in a bus specially prepared for the purpose.

100 arrested as Vikas Yatra is launched

The much-publicised Punjab Vikas Yatra today proved to be far from a mass-contact programme as those wanting to present their case before the Chief Minister, Mr Amarinder Singh, had to face police wrath. The public, too, was put to inconvenience with a curfew-like situation prevailing in the district.

Medical college Principal alleges kidnap bid on son

The chargesheeted Principal of Medical College, Dr J.S. Dalal, today alleged that two scooter-borne youths made an attempt to kidnap his son, a student of class X,  when he was on the way to his school today.

College teachers’ protest paralyses work in Punjab
Chandigarh, November 8
In response to the statewide call given by the Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers Union (PCCTU), hundreds of private college teachers today held a protest demonstration here today. The teachers were on mass casual leave, paralysing teaching work in more than 160 non-government colleges of Punjab and Chandigarh.

The Punjab Bharatiya Janata Party released yet another video CD with visuals of alleged bogus voting in the recently held Patiala Municipal Council byelection. It also carries manhandling of some women by Congress leaders in the presence of civil and police officers, here yesterday.

Lyricist rooted to Puadhi culture
Chandigarh, November 8
Puadhi is one of the rich dialects of Punjabi. It is spoken in a vast area of Ropar, Patiala and adjoining areas. Famous folk singer, the late Surjit Bindrikhiya, was a hardcore Puadhi. And that used to reflect from the songs he lent voice to. Budding writer Jasbir Mand, who is now settled in Japan, is also a Puadhi.

Sacked PLDRC employees call on Bhattal

A deputation of terminated employees of the PLDRC met Ms Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, Chairperson of a Cabinet subcommittee on employees’ demands, under the leadership of Mr Gurchet Singh Bhullar, MLA, recently. These employees demanded their adjustment in other government boards and corporations.

Paddy production in Punjab has dropped below expectations which will reduce the share of rice in the Central foodgrain pool by about 6.70 lakh tonnes.

4 murder accused sniffed out
Batala, November 8
Police dogs have sniffed out killers of police constable Kuldeep Singh, resident of Bhalae Chak village. The SSP, Batala, Mr L.K. Yadav, in a press note issued here today said Santokh Singh, father of the constable, had lodged a complaint that his son had been murdered.

A resident of Lehrakhaana village has been booked on the charge of killing his wife.

Youth fest: Pbi varsity campus continues winning spree
Patiala, November 8
Punjabi University campus, which stole the show on the opening day of the three-day youth festival, continued its winning spree on the second day also. Its contestants won top positions in group shabad, classical instrumental (non-percussion), classical instrumental (percussion) and semi-classical events, while they scored the second position in classical vocal, and light vocal competitions.
