The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee has viewed with utmost concern and distress the latest judgment of the Copenhagen Eastern High Court, upholding the Copenhagen City Court judgment confiscating the six-inch-long kirpan of a practising “amritdhari” (baptised) Sikh, Dr Ripudaman Singh.

No end to border farmers’ woes

Badal, Khanna must step down: Mayor

Mr Vishnu Sharma, Mayor, today said that SAD chief Parkash Singh Badal and state BJP president Avinash Rai Khanna should resign from their respective posts as their alliance candidate Anil Bajaj was defeated with a huge margin in the election of Ward No. 32 by Congress candidate Anil Kumar Mangla.

Cong encourages corruption, says Grewal

Mr Harjit Singh Grewal, national secretary, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said the police officers exceeding limits under the Congress rule in the state would have to answer for their deeds. Those who had helped the Congress men to kill democracy in Patiala and Jalandhar would not be spared and it was a matter of couple of months only. He added in a democratic set up there could not be capture of polling booths by the media adviser of the Chief Minister.

In order to promote national martyrs memorial Hussaniwala as a major centre of tourist attraction, the state government will spend a sum of Rs 5.42 crore on the development and beautification of the site. 2 held with 3.5 kg smack

The naka party of Hoshiarpur police led by Mr Tarlochan Singh Manhas, DSP (R), yesterday arrested Devo, wife of Darshan Singh of Bhungarni, and Mohinder Pal, son of Bachana Ram of Kharkili PS Rajaund, Kaithal district, presently resident in the same village, while they were trying to flee on the bridge of a canal near their village.

Two-day convention at engg college ends

The two-day ISTE’s student’s convention concluded at the local Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College. Member secretary of the college trust Kirpal Singh Libra was the chief guest while member trust, Didar Singh Bhatti was the guest of honour at the valedictory function. Dr D.S. Punjabi University team wins overall trophy

The Punjabi University campus team won the overall trophy in the Punjabi University Patiala zone youth festival which concluded at Nabha, 25 km from here, late last evening. The team won overall individual trophies in music, theatre and dance while it finished overall second in library and fine arts categories. The Government College for Girls, Patiala and host Government Ripudaman College, Nabha, finished overall second and third, respectively.

PCCTU puts off rally to Nov 8

The Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers Union (PCCTU) has postponed its rally scheduled for October 31 to November 8. According to Mr Jagwant Singh, general secretary, this decision was taken during a meeting of the executive at Banga today.
