Rights panel takes notice of urchins’ deaths

Acting on a complaint of the president of the Subhash Chander Bose Society for Blind, the Punjab State Human Rights Commission has taken cognisance of the death of three minor children whose badly decomposed bodies were found in a locked car in Amarpura Colony here two months ago.

Having failed to recover case property, including a vehicle owned by a complainant and travel documents of an accused, the local police feels crippled as the Uttar Pradesh Police is allegedly shielding the accused, booked two months ago for duping innocent Punjabi youths in the name of marriage.

Shifting of statue of martyr Kartar Singh Sarabha from under the elevated road created quite a controversy in the city. It seemed that the district administration was in no mood to shift the statue if the issue was not taken up by some political leaders. It was finally shifted a few hours before the elevated road was opened to public by the Chief Minister.

Benefits of surya kriya yoga highlighted

Chhath Puja concludes

A two-day festival of Chhath Puja concluded here today. Hundreds of migrant families from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar offered prayers to the rising and setting sun on the banks of the Sirhind Canal near here yesterday and today.

Polytechnic, ITI students to go on strike tomorrow

Several students of government polytechnics and ITIs in the district will boycott their classes on October 31 to protest against the callous attitude of the state government. They allege that the government has meted out a step- motherly treatment to them.

Aided colleges’ teachers to protest on Nov 8
Doraha, October 29
Teachers of aided colleges of Punjab and Chandigarh will go on a mass casual leave and stage a protest in Chandigarh on November 8. The executive committee of their union will also court arrest on that day.

34th annual convention of GGSSC concludes

Hospital to hold reflexology camp

The local SPS Apollo Hospitals is organising a two-day reflexology camp from Tuesday for patients suffering from stress, migraine and cancer. Reflexologist Gurmukh Singh, who is trained in the UK, will conduct the camp and provide reflexology therapy to the aspirants free of cost.

Trang to lead Ludhiana Twenty20 squad

Trang Bharti and Sakun Jindal have been named captain and vice-captian, respectively, of the Ludhiana Twenty20 cricket team (u-19) for the forthcoming Punjab State Inter-District Cricket Tournament slated to be held at Jalandhar from November 1, said Mr Amarveer Singh, president, Ludhiana District Twenty20 Cricket Association.
