Yoga expert on varsity panel
: Dr H.Kumar Kaul, author and practitioner of yoga hailing from Barnala has been nominated expert on the panel of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University Hisar. He will evaluate/assess the work of teachers for promotion as Professors under the Career Advancement Scheme.

Science cong for kids
: The Punjab State Council for Science and Technology organised a district-level children science Congress at Government Senior Secondary School here. In the junior section Government High School, Jhingeran, Adarsh Bal Vidhayala, Nawanshahr, and Government Senior Secondary School (Boys), Rahon, and in senior section Government Senior Secondary School, Jadla, Government High School, Jhingeran, and Adarsh Bal Vidhayala, Nawanshahr, won the first three positions, respectively.

Medical camps: The local Baba Sri Chand Welfare Trust in collaboration with Sandhu Clinic organised a free medical check-up camp at Gurudwara Tahli Sahib here to mark ‘Sankariti’. Dr. J.S. Sandhu, psychiatrist and Dr Gurjit Kaur, skin specialist, examined more than 150 patients. Free medicines were given to the needy patients. Similarly, Guru Ravidas Welfare Society organised a ‘kirtan darbar’ and free medical check-up camp at Saincha village. Dr Paramjit Mann, child specialist, examined 70 children.

Samrala
Bee-keeping course
: A seven-day training course on bee-keeping for rural youth concluded here on Monday. It was organised by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Samrala, of the PAU under the supervision of Dr Anita. Dr J.S. Chandi, Deputy Director (Training) encouraged farmers to adopt bee-keeping as a subsidiary occupation.

Voter lists: Mr Baldev Singh, SDM and returning officer, has said corrections in voter lists has been undertaken and will continue till November 10. He appealed to political parties to make sure that this information reached all concerned so that the necessary corrections could be effected within a stipulated period. He said forms could be obtained from post offices.

Murdered
: A deaf and dumb servant at a roadside dhaba was allegedly murdered by two youths in Jondhi village of the district on Saturday night. The police said Jeeta, a manager at a roadside dhaba on the Jhajjar-Sampla road lodged a complaint that two cycle-borne youths arrived at his dhaba last night and asked him to serve dinner to them. When he argued that it was too late, they started abusing him and also manhandled him. He, however, fled from there but they allegedly caught a servant at the dhaba who was deaf and dumb. He was mercilessly beaten up and murdered by strangulation with a bicycle chain.

Bihari held for raping minor
: The local police arrested a Bihari migrant labourer for allegedly raping a 5-year-old child here on Saturday night. Sunil was caught by residents of Saini Colony when he raped the girl at a desolated place near her house.

Illegal quarrying
: The Sub-Divisional Magistrate-cum-District Mining officer of Kalpa, Capt Raman Sharma, on Sunday caught red-handed five trucks illegally lifting sand and stones from the river bed of Sutlej at Tapri in Kinnaur district. Last week, six such trucks were caught by him. He also penalised four quarrying sites. A total fine of Rs 1 lakh was imposed and collected from the illegal sand/stones lifters and leaseholders of the quarrying sites during the past one week.
