NCC camp: A 10-day NCC camp was organised by 3 Punjab NCC Battalion at Police Academy, Phillaur, recently under the leadership of camp commandant Amrik Singh and deputy camp commandant S.S. Dhaliwal. During the camp, Naresh Verma of R.K Senior Secondary School was honoured.

Case registered: Thieves took away gold items from the shop of Suresh Verma of Mullanpur. The police has registered a case.

CDs seized: The police has arrested Garish Kumar of Jagraon and seized 30 duplicate CDs and two CDs of blue films. A case has been registered against him.

Remanded: Amanjot Kaur, who allegedly killed her newborn daughter on September 14, was produced in the court of Mr Gopal Arora, Judicial Magistrate, Jagraon, and was remanded in police custody till September 22. Amanjot had strangulated her daughter and dumped the body in a septic tank. The body was exhumed on Tuesday by the police from her house at Galib Khurd village.

Yoga camp: A free yoga camp was inaugurated by Dr Sushil Mittal, president of the Senior Staff Club of the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala, on Wednesday. Mr Ashok Rana and Mr Yogendra Shastri, followers of Baba Ramdev, were teaching various techniques of Pranayama and yoga to the faculty of the institute and people from other walks of life, as per a press note issued here.

Blood donation camp: The fifth Punjab Battalion of the NCC, Patiala, organised a blood donation camp on the campus of JNV School, Fatehpur Rajputtan, in the district, in which 75 units of blood were collected. Lt-Col N.S. Sidhu, Commanding Officer, 5 Punjab Battalion, NCC, Patiala, addressed the audience and impressed on maximising voluntary blood donation.

Red Cross mela
: The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Subhashis Panda, said on Monday the Governor, Mr V.S. Kokje, would inaugurate the state-level Red-Cross mela on October 15. Eating stalls, special cultural and games competitions for the physically challenged children would be attractions of the mela, he added.

Elected: The following have been elected office-bearers of the Shimla district Sanchar Nigam Executives Association: president - Mr Sudesh Kumar; district secretary - Mr R K Gupta; organising secretary - Mr R D Sharma; treasurer - Mr S P Sharma ; and press secretary - Mr Naresh Chauhan.

Girl crushed: Deepa, a nine-year-old Nepali girl, was crushed to death by a speeding truck at Jury about 140 km from here, on Tusday. The mishap occurred when she alighted from a bus. The driver of the truck has been arrested.
