Youth hacks sister, cousin to death Dinanagar (Gurdaspur), September 20 The victims were alone at their home. The other family members had gone to participate in some marriage ceremony in the village. Rajesh Kumar, who is a carpenter, came home and found his sister and the cousin in a compromising situation with the youth. He got infuriated and attacked all of them with a sharp-edged weapon. The youth fled. Rajesh attacked Puja with the weapon on neck, head and arms, killing her on the spot. Jyoti tired to protect Puja and in the process her hand got chopped off. She scaled wall and entered the adjoining house of their relatives. Rajesh followed her into the house and attacked her with the weapon. Villagers gathered at the spot after listening to the cries of the girls. Rajesh fled the spot. Jyoti later died while being taken to a hospital. The police arrested Rajesh Kumar and a case under Section 302 of the IPC was registered against him. When contacted in a lock-up at Dinanagar police station, Rajesh Kumar was unrepentant. He said what he had done was right. It should be lesson for those sisters who did not care for the family honour and indulge in illicit activities. The father and maternal uncle of Rajesh have lodged a police complaint against him. In their complaint, they have, however, not said anything regarding the deceased girls. They have alleged that Rajesh generally used to quarrel with his sister Puja. Yesterday they had a quarrel, following which he killed Puja and Jyoti with a sharp-edged weapon. Rajesh has five sisters, including the deceased Puja. Three of them have been married. |
