BJP wants land Act repealed

The BJP has decided to launch a signature campaign on the “wrong implementation” of the Punjab Land Preservation Act (PLPA) in the kandi belt of the state.

CM rapped over demand to transfer Chandigarh

Training his guns on the Capt Amarinder Singh government, Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal, general secretary of the Shiromani Akali Dal, has accused the Congress of turning its back on the long-standing demand of transfer of Chandigarh to Punjab.

Farmers to begin stir from today

In view of the forthcoming session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, various organisations of farmers in the state shall start an agitation at the Matka Chowk in Chandigarh from tomorrow. The Vidhan Sabha session begins on September 14.

Rs 40 cr for rail link between Goindwal Sahib, Tarn Taran

The Union Railway Ministry has sanctioned Rs 40 crore for laying the rail track between Goindwal Sahib and Tarn Taran. The work on laying the track is expected to start in the last week of October.

Sexual complaints panel working ‘not transparent’

Mr Simranjit Singh Mann, president of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), was today honoured with “Kohenoor-e-Kaum” award by the local unit of the SAD (A), social organisations and youth clubs at a function here. Mr Mann was honoured with a Sri Sahib, a memento and a “siropa”.

Setback to Nabha MC chief
Nabha, September 10
The President of the local Municipal Council, Mr Pawan Garg, has got a jolt after a brief relief from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Two days ago the court stayed the proceedings of the meeting having the agenda of no-confidence motion against him. But, today all 14 councillors expressed their loyalty towards local MLA Randip Singh, who is a respondent in the case filed by Mr Garg. Mr Parmod, senior vice-president of the MC, said all 14 councillors had decided to support the MLA .

Improvement Trust registers record income
Amritsar, September 10
Amritsar Improvement Trust has registered a record income, which shot up by 140 per cent during the last two years. The income of the trust that earlier stood at Rs 2313.41 lakh had swelled to Rs 5542.23 lakh.

3 killed in accidents
Hoshiarpur, September 10
Three persons were killed in different accidents in the district during the past 24 hours. According to police sources, Hasmudin of Ekhaia village (UP) died in an accident on Friday evening while he was working in a saw mill at Sherpur Khas village.
