2 sisters murdered, house set on fire
Tribune News Service

Moga, September 10
Two sisters, Kaushalya Devi (70) and Satya Devi (60), were murdered in their house on Bagha Purana at Nihal Singh Wala today.

Killers first strangulated them then set their room on fire to give the murder the shape of a mishap.

However, they could not succeed in their plan as the victims’ neighbourers noticed the fire and put it out before their bodies could burn.

SSP Pawan Kumar Rai visited the spot. Mr Rai said initially it was thought that some robbers were behind the murders as items were spread in the room.

Later, the police found all valuables, including jewellery and cash, intact during search of the house, he added.

Mr Rai further said after seeing the condition of the bodies it was observed that the women had been murdered before making an attempt to burn them by setting the room on fire in an apparent attempt to mislead the police. He added the exact position would emerge only after getting post-mortem report.

To a query, he said some enmity might be behind the murder. He said the family members of the deceased were yet to be asked their enemies.

Meanwhile, the neighbourers said Kaushalya Devi had been living with her sister Satya Devi at the latter’s house for the past some time.

Satya Devi’s husband Lekh Raj Arora runs a kiosk at the local bus stand while their son was working as a conductor in a private bus. Aroras’ daughter has reportedly got divorce from her husband just a week before.
