Stop maligning Jats, threatens panchayat
Tribune News Service

Rohtak, August 26
A Sarv Khap panchayat held here today demanded immediate deletion of all derogatory remarks against the Jat community from all NCERT books.
The panchayat presided over by Mr Ishwar Singh, head, Chaurasi Panchayat, warned that unless this was done immediately, the panchayat would launch an agitation to get the needful done.

In a resolution, the panchayat condemned the government for allowing such derogatory references against a patriotic and brave community which had been fighting for the country since the times of Ahmed Shah Abdali.

Through another resolution, the panchayat accused the Rohtak district administration of trying to shield the controversial preacher Rampal who was booked for murder last month following violent incidents at his Karontha based ashram.

The panchayat regretted that “despite publicly stating that illicit arms and other incriminating material was seized from the ashram”, the authorities were now merely saying that five licensed arms were found.

It said any attempt to shield the preacher would be resisted by the panchayat which would go to any length to ensure that the preacher was brought to book and punished for his misdeeds.

The panchayat demanded that cases registered against youths who had been attacked by preacher’s supporters should be withdrawn immediately. It demanded that the Karontha ashram be converted into a gurukul in memory of the youth killed in the firing.

The panchayat pointed out that despite the government’s announcement that those injured in the firing would be treated free of cost, the victims had yet to receive payment for the money they had spent on medicines. It demanded that those seriously hurt in the violence be given government jobs.

Through another resolution, it decided to convene a Sarv Khap panchayat at Bahadurgarh on September 17 to prepare its future plans if its demands were not met by then.

History being polluted, says BJP leader
Our Correspondent

Jhajjar, August 26
The vice-president and MP from Sonepat, Mr Kishan Singh Sangwan, said that history of India was being tampered with and not only Jats but many communities and their gods and goddesses are being depicted in poor light.

The BJP leader held a press conference in Bahadurgarh today and distributed copies of the study material of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), NCERT and Delhi University which contained insulting remarks against God Shiva, goddess Durga and communities like Jats, Brahmins and Banias. Mr Sangwan told that a book IGNOU for first year students of MA history stated that Lord Shiva was a
lustful sage.

"Similarly, a reference in the same book stated that goddess Durga used to drink alcohol. There are so many instances which indicated that the Indian history is being polluted", the BJP leader said, adding that when the NDA government tried to omit such derogatory references from the books and study material, the exercise was termed as saffronisation of the history.

The MP said he had raised the issue in the Lok Sabha and also demanded the removal of such objectionable content from history books so that future generations can get ideal and unadulterated knowledge of past.

He also demanded the resignation of the HRD Minister Arjun Singh and registration of criminal case against such historians who wrote such content.

Later, the BJP activists led by the MP burn effigy of the HRD minister.

‘Kar seva’ begins to clean Kapal Mochan sarovar

Yamunanagar, August 26
Villagers have taken to ‘kar seva’ to clean the sacred Kapal Mochan sarovar spread over 5 acres adjacent to the historical Kapal Mochan gurdwara in Bilaspur block of Yamunanagar. It is believed that a dip in the sarovar washes away all sins and every year several lakh Hindus and Sikhs gather here to take a dip in the sarovar in October-November.

Two to 5-foot grass is standing on the bed of the sarovar and the villagers have taken upon themselves the task of freeing the pond from it. The villagers will first free the pond of the grass and then the bed will be ploughed so that the water seepage can be minimised.

The district administration on its part cleans and fills the pond and two other ponds ahead of the annual state mela each year. “The administration does its job each year. Yet, it was felt that public participation was required for maintenance of the three ponds,” said Mr Surinder Singh, Manager, Kapal Mochan Gurdwara.

A few days ago, residents of Milkhas village started the ‘kar seva’. Soon students of Sanskrit Karmkand College joined them. By day two, residents of the neighbouring villages also joined them.

Former Union Minister of Tourism Jagmohan had sanctioned Rs 2.25 crore for the upkeep of the ponds and the area. Two tubewells were dug for filling the water bodies.

Locals admit that the district administration on its own could not maintain the ponds. “With public participation the maintenance is easy.” said Mr Bhopal Singh of Milkhas village.

Now 40-50 villagers can be seen removing grass. “The rush is increasing and we hope the work will be completed soon”, said the Manager. He said now the villagers had been asked to reach the pond in turns after 4 p.m.

The annual Kapal Mochan fair is scheduled from November 1. Last year, more than eight lakh pilgrims from various parts of the country had taken a dip in the pond

Students fear delay in start of session

Tribune News Service

Kurukshetra, August 26
Scores of undergraduate and PG students enrolled with Kurukshetra University (KU) fear late beginning of the current academic session as the university has yet to declare results of several undergraduate classes.

Talking to this correspondent a number of college and KU teachers blamed the university authorities for the unprecedented delay. They fear that late declaration of results will hamper the academic atmosphere. Normally, the admission process starts in July.

The results of LLB, M Ed, M Phil (II yr) Hindi, MA (II yr) Sociology, BA LLB (Hons), besides other PG classes, are pending. Similarly, the results of numerous sections and streams of BA, BSc and B Com are yet to be declared.

Though the KU authorities claim that they were not at fault and were declaring results as per schedule, the students blamed the university authorities for being late in declaring the results.

Talking to The Tribune here on Thursday, the Additional Controller of Examination, Mr R. P. Lohan, claimed that a large number of results of the undergraduate and postgraduate classes had been declared by the KU.

The results of final year of PG and UG classes had already been declared and the pending results would be out by month-end.

The results of certain UG science classes, including biotech, were pending due to the ongoing process of compiling the details. “Little” delay was due to the streamlining of the examination system, he said.

Dismissing the charge of delay in academic session, he said that provisional admissions had been given to all the students.

From this session, KU has fully computerised the entire examination system.

He said preparing database of about 3 lakh students in one go was a Herculean task and claimed that the KU deserved appreciation for the same.

The KU has become the first university to provide the detailed marks card (DMC) in colour with the scanned photograph of the candidate on it.

He admitted that there were certain flaws which marred the functioning. He said that the KU offered at least four “mercy chances” to the candidates who failed to pass his course.

Northern, central power grids synchronised
Tribune News Service

Hisar, August 26
A historic event in the country’s power transmission system took place this afternoon as the Northern Grid was synchronised with the Central Grid, comprising the western, eastern and northeastern regions.

A spokesman for Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) said here today that the power grids had been connected at the 400 KV substation in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh (Northern Grid) from 400 KV substation at Muzzaffarpur, Bihar (Eastern Grid) through a 400-KV double-circuit transmission line.

With the synchronisation of the two power grids, the power-deficit states fed by the Northern Grid, including Haryana, can utilise the surplus electricity of the eastern and western grids.

If there are no passage or corridor constraints, Haryana can get power generated at the projects connected to the eastern, western and northeastern grids. There are a number of agreements of Haryana with the Power Utilities in the Eastern Grid to purchase electricity on short-term basis.

Additional short-term power-purchase agreements with different power-generating agencies connected with the Eastern Grid will also be easily possible under the new arrangement.

The spokesman said the frequency variation in the Northern Grid would now be minimum as the frequency level in the grid had improved immediately after the synchronisation of the two grids.

With the improved frequency level, the power supply to the industry has been stepped up and power cuts to the domestic sector reduced considerably, the spokesman claimed.
