US warns of terror attacks in India
New Delhi, August 11
The US Embassy here has warned of a series of bombing in or around New Delhi and Mumbai between today and August 16 by “foreign terrorists” and dropped a bombshell that the Al-Qaida could also be involved in such strikes.

Pakistan today named British national Rashid Rauf, who was arrested here, as a “key person” in the terror plot targeting US-bound airliners from Britain and claimed that there was an Al Qaida connection in the conspiracy.

Speaker rejects motion against PM

Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee today rejected the privilege notices given by the NDA and others against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for leakage of the Justice Pathak Authority Report to the media before it was laid in the House, saying it did not constitute any breach of privilege or contempt of the House.

Bones of infant found in another well
Patran (Patiala), August 11
Around 100 bones, which seem to be of a three-month-old child, clothes and other material, used in carrying out an abortion, have been recovered from a second well in front of Sahib Hospital here. A team of the District Health Department was present at the well when the excavation started today.

Haryana makes registration of docs compulsory
Chandigarh, August 11
In order to deal with doctors indulging in malpractices like sex determination tests, the Health Department, Haryana, has made it mandatory for all doctors to be registered with the Haryana Medical Council.

The cola war appears to be getting fiercer with battle lines being drawn. The public hue and cry has compelled the Centre to become more pro-active and make a second assurance to the nation in less than four days that it was concerned about the issue and was contemplating banning cola advertisements.

2 LeT suspects arrested in Ludhiana
Ludhiana, August 8
Two suspected Lashkar-e-Toiba militants were reportedly caught by a special team of the local police from near Bharat Nagar Chowk late tonight.  They were caught during a special vigil in the city as part of the security for Independence Day celebrations. — TNS

Gen sent on ‘forced leave’

In a surprise move, the Director-General of Military Intelligence, Lt-Gen Deepak H. Summanwar, has been sent on “compulsory long leave” by the Army Headquarters, it has been reliably learnt. The action was taken in view of Lt-Gen Summanwar having “misused defence equipment and manpower” for a private project involving his wife and kin. — UNI

Colonel to face court martial for information leak

The Army has ordered trial by a general court martial of a Colonel held blameworthy for leak of highly sensitive military information, which was reportedly passed on to Pakistani intelligence by an Army jawan posted as a clerk in his office, it is learnt.
