8 reservoirs operationalised: The MC on Tuesday brought the eighth overhead service reservoir (OHSR) under operation which will supply potable water to wards one, three and five. Earlier, the MC had revived seven reservoirs located in and around the walled city.

Medicine shops raided: Alarmed over complaints regarding the large-scale sale of cough syrups and other restricted medicines, three teams of the Health Department led by drug inspectors from the Patiala headquarters on Tuesday raided some medicine shops in the subdivisional town. The district police had already launched a major offensive against the elements involved in smuggling smack, opium and poppy husk from Sriganganagar and Hanumangarh cities of neighbouring. Rajasthan and recently busted an inter-state gang based at Sirsa in Haryana

“Shivir” concludes: The five-day “Charitra Nirman Shivir” concluded at DAV Centenary Public School, Haripur village, near here on Tuesday. Mr Balbir Singh Danewalia, chairman of the local Advisory Committee, was the chief guest. Dr Satwant Kaur Bhullar, state president, Arya Yuva Samaj (women’s wing), presided.

Directive to ADC: Taking serious notice of the lax attitude of Public Health officials in launching the repair work of waterworks in the district, Deputy Commissioner Rahul Bhandari has asked the ADC (Development) to recommend departmental action against the executive engineers of Public Health Division-I and II.

Panel formed: A six-member committee headed by the Deputy Commissioner, Panipat, has been formed to keep a check on private institutions and trusts which do not implement the conditions of admissions in their schools after they get the school sites carved out in urban estates development by HUDA. There were numerous complaints in the district that many private institutions which got the sites from HUDA were not giving any relaxation to the admission-seekers relating to the economically weaker sections even as they were bound to reserve 10 per cent seats from them as per the conditions laid down at the time of allotment of sites.

girl washed away: A school student was killed when she fell from a foot bridge at Bihali Ghrat in the Gadsa valley of this district on Tuesday. the victim, Kauran Devi (16), a resident of Shalogi village, was on her way to school when she lost her balance while crossing the bridge and fell into the Pulia Nullah and was washed away.
