8 pilgrims killed as tempo hits oil tanker

Kaithal, June 17
Eight pilgrims were killed and 15 others were injured when the tempo carrying them was hit by an oil tanker near Pinjupura village of Kalayat division in this district today, the police said.

The tempo was full of pilgrims, who were coming from Dera Sacha Sauda at Sirsa, and were on their way to Naraingarh in Ambala district.

Those killed have been identified as Des Raj (50), Jai Ram (70), Passidevi (60), Surjeet Kaur (23), Jagir Kaur (60), Gurnamo (50), Banto Devi (60) and Kaka (20).

According to the police, when the tempo was near Pinjupura, the oil tanker hit it and it rolled down near the road side. After the accident, all pilgrims were shifted to the Civil Hospital, Kaithal. — PTI
