Bank Chairman, deputy suspended

Baby girl abandoned to drown

Ludhiana, June17
It might have been the widely prevailing aversion for the girl child or the possible financial constraints that forced unidentified parents of a new-born girl to leave her floating on the Sidhwan Canal. Had it not been for chance spotting by a couple of youth, the baby might have drowned.

880 more claims of riot victims settled

Mr Ashok Kumar Gupta, Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana informed here today that 880 more claims of riot victims for payment of compensation of Rs. 2.00 lakh per family have been approved and recommended by the District level sub committee to the state level committee for sanction, which is likely to be received by the end of this month.

Dance contest marks summer camp

Ludhiana, June 17
A month-long summer camp is being held at the love Dale Club in three wings- cultural, art and personality development. A dance competition was held to mark the camp today. The children danced to the tunes of various songs. All children were given achiever’s awards and they would be performing at the annual function of the club on June 30.

AS College students excel in exams

Students of the local A S College have brought laurels to the institution by excelling in the examinations held by Panjab University, in April 2006. According to Dr R S Jhanji, Principal, the result of the college was 100 per cent.

New pathology lab inaugurated in DMCH

In the ongoing process of infrastructure development and upgrading of equipment, various new areas have been constructed in the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) here.

Rabies awareness camp
Ludhiana, June 17
In a bid to create awareness about rabies among the rural masses, a rabies awareness and free anti-rabies vaccination camp was organised at Halwara village in this district under the directions of Dr B.S. Sidhu, Director, Animal Husbandry, Punjab. The Department of Animal Husbandry, in collaboration with the Punjab State Veterinary Council, has been organising such camps throughout the state for the past two years.

Transfers of MC employees cancelled
Ludhiana, June 17
The large scale transfers of hundreds of civic body employees in different branches, ordered by the Commissioner of Municipal Corporation, Mr S.K. Sharma, during last week have been cancelled. This was confirmed by Mr Sharma himself while talking to a deputation of the Municipal Karamchari Dal at his camp office here today.
