Chandigarh, June 4
Recognising the fact that the long list of cases pending for hearing has shaken the people’s confidence in the country’s judicial system, the higher arm of the judiciary has now taken upon itself to do something meaningful in this regard.
The Supreme Court has taken the lead in this respect. The apex court has cut down the duration of its summer vacation by a week. Earlier the apex court was scheduled to re-open after the vacations on July 10. Now it will start working from July 3.
Not only this. For the first 10 days of the vacations, two regular Division Benches of the apex court disposed off cases pending before the court. Later one Bench functioned.
Taking a cue from the Supreme Court, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has also taken an initiative to cut the list of pending cases.
