Apollo’s U-turn on drugs in samples

New Delhi, June 4
A day after its doctors said Rahul Mahajan had tested negative for all known drugs, Delhi’s Apollo Hospital today said traces of “cocktail of drugs” were found in his urine sample.

“Traces of drugs have been found in the urine sample of Rahul. Since it is a cocktail of drugs, we cannot conclusively say which particular drug he has taken and, therefore, he has tested negative for any single drug,” hospital sources said. Metabolites of drugs had been found in the samples, hospital sources said.

However, they said, “Though the test conducted on Mahajan confirmed faint traces of drugs, they are very much within the permissible limits and therefore the report for them is negative. We do not examine traces. We only examine whether a sample is negative or positive for any particular drug.”

Sources also said because of these reasons the hospital was unable to say conclusively if he had taken cocaine or any other particular drug. — PTI
