HP to give 500 mw power

Palampur, May 10
Ms Vidya Stokes, Power Minister, Himachal Pradesh, announced here today that the state would soon supply 500 mw of additional power to Delhi, Punjab and Haryana to meet their power requirements.

Speaking at Dehra Gopipur, she said with the commissioning of Larji and Kholi projects in the next two months, the HPSEB would have surplus power. Besides, the HPSEB had also decided to take up the over-hauling of the all existing old power houses in the state to utilise their maximum power generation capacity. She said under a special plan evolved by the state government, necessary technical changes and modifications would be made in all old power houses in the state soon and there would be no shortage of funds for this purpose.

Ms Stokes said all private companies executing power projects in the state were bound to recruit 70 per cent bonafide Himachalis in their companies, and if any company was found violating this law, the government would initiate stringent legal action.

Ropar units operational

Ropar, May 10
All the five units of 210-MW each of the thermal plant, Ropar, that had come to a halt on Monday night, became operational today. Units 1, 2 and 4 became operational last evening, while units 3 and 5 started functioning this morning.

With the functioning of the five units, the state is getting 250 lakh units to meet the power demand, the General Manager of the thermal plant, Mr N.K Arora, said.
