Mumbai, May 10
Acting on information from the Centre, the anti-terrorist squad of the Mumbai police has foiled a plan to blow up the Ellora caves at Aurangabad.

During the operation, which was completed last night, more than 10 places in Aurangabad were searched by police personnel from Mumbai and Delhi.

Three persons were arrested and four others detained for questioning, the police said here.

It seized 33 kg of RDX explosives, 10 AK-47 rifles and 2,000 live cartridges.

The police gave the name of one of the persons arrested as Amir Shakeel Ahmed, aged 30.

According to sources in the Home Department, the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) had set up at least 10 sleeper cells in Mumbai and its suburbs and attempts were being made to uncover those.

The police said the LeT had staked out prominent landmarks like offshore oil rigs of the ONGC along the Mumbai coast and residences of the Chief Minister, the Governor and Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray.

Bollywood functions and rock concerts were also said to be on the LeT radar, according to the police.

It said the existence of a LeT terror node at Aurangabad was uncovered following the arrest of two terrorists in Delhi on May 8.
