22 Hindus massacred in Doda
Bodies of 9 kidnapped from Udhampur found
Jammu, May 1
In a pre-dawn attack, terrorists raided seven hamlets around Kulhand village in Doda district and massacred 22 Hindu men, women and children. Eleven persons were wounded and nine of them were flown to the medical college here for treatment.

Suryanarayan’s haste cost him his life
New Delhi, May 1
While the body of Taliban’s latest victim, Indian engineer K Suryanarayan, was flown here from Kabul and then to Hyderabad, the Indian special team decided to stay a day more in the troubled country to study in greater details the fast-changing security requirements for the 1,300 Indians in Afghanistan.

HC: issue death certificates to Malta victims
Chandigarh, May 1
Providing succour to the families of the victims of the Malta Boat tragedy, the Punjab and Haryana High Court today directed the Centre and the Punjab Government to issue death certificates of the deceased at the earliest.

Mahajan’s condition worsens
Mumbai, May 1
The condition of Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary Pramod Mahajan worsened today with doctors detecting symptoms of Acute Respiratory Disorder Syndrome. The functioning of Mr Mahajan’s lungs has worsened and he has been put on advanced mechanical ventilator support.

Move afoot to regulate paddy transplantation
Ordinance to check declining water likely
Chandigarh, May 1
The Punjab Agriculture Department is keen to regulate the transplantation of paddy in the state to check the rapidly declining water table. Informed sources said today that the department was of the view that no farmer should be allowed to transplant paddy in the state before June 10, a date fixed by the department in consultation with the Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana.
