Mahajan’s condition worsens
Tribune News Service

Mumbai, May 1
The condition of Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary Pramod Mahajan worsened today with doctors detecting symptoms of Acute Respiratory Disorder Syndrome. The functioning of Mr Mahajan’s lungs has worsened and he has been put on advanced mechanical ventilator support.

According to doctors at the Hinduja Hospital, where Mr Mahajan is undergoing treatment, the inflammation resulting from the gunshot injuries have now spread to all parts of his body.

Doctors said the ARDS is caused in patients with extensive multiple trauma, massive blood transfusion and systematic sepsis. The main concern of doctors attending on Mr Mahajan is to ensure that oxygen reaches those organs of the body that have been injured and those that have gone through multi-organ trauma.

“Mr Mahajan’s condition is very serious and we are closely monitoring him on hourly basis”, Mr Gustad Daver, Director(Professional services), Hinduja Hospital said. He said medication to maintain blood pressure, besides the renal replacement therapy, would continue.

According to Dr Daver, Mr Mahajan’s pancreas and duodenum have been badly damaged. “We will not be doing anything with the pancreas as the organ is badly damaged. We will only be drying out the fluid,” he said.
