Alleged killer booked: The Mehta police has booked Jagdeep Singh for allegedly killing his neighbour Mangal Singh over a property dispute. He had absconded after the incident. A case under Section 302 of the IPC has been registered.

Watches stolen: A watch shop on the city road was burgled the previous night after breaking open the locks of the shutter. The burglars decamped with watches worth over Rs 1.50 lakh from the shop as was disclosed here on Thursday by Mr Purshottam Lal Gupta, owner of the shop.

Misbehaviour with scribes
: The police on security duty misbehaved with journalists after they reached the PAP Complex to meet the Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh, here on Thursday. The journalists were stopped by the policemen present there who said that no reporters would be allowed inside the venue on the orders of senior police authorities. A scuffle, too, ensued between the journalists and the policemen. Peace was restored after an intervention by the SSP, Mr Ishwar Singh.

Woman suffers burns: A resident of Cheemakhurd village in Nurmahal area was admitted to the Civil Hospital here with burn injuries on Thursday. In her statement to the police, 35-year-old Neelam stated that she was heating milk for her child on Wednesday night when the stove burst.

SAPS gets new president: Mr Sudershan Sharma, president of the Arya Pratinidhi Sabha, Punjab, and Chancellor of the Haridwar-based Gurukul Kangri University, has been appointed as the working president of the Sarvadeshik Arya Pratinidhi Sabha(SAPS). Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Mr Vimal Vadhawan Arya and Mr Ved Vrat, secretary and senior vice-president of SAPS respectively, said that Mr Sharma was given the new assignment for his contributions to the Arya Samaj.

Police remand: In an alleged dowry death case, the arrested father-in-law of Meenakshi Sharma, who had reportedly committed suicide by jumping before a train on Santokhpura railway crossing on April 2, was remanded to two-day police custody by the Judicial Magistrate, Phagwara, on Wednesday.

SCHOOL LAUDED: The Parents Teachers Association of Government Model High School, Sector 12, Chandigarh, has congratulated the Headmistress, Ms Vijay Kaushal, and staff members of the school for the 100 per cent result in the recently declared Class VIII result, conducted by the UT Board. Out of the 68 students who appeared in the exam, 23 got first division and the remaining 45 got second divisions.

Mela inaugurated
: Himachal Vidhan Sabha Deputy Speaker Dharam Pal Thakur on Wednesday inaugurated the four-day annual “Greeshmotsava” at Ghumarwin. He announced a grant of Rs 1 lakh for the development of the mela ground and also announced a grant of Rs 3100 for those children who presented the cultural programme.
