Srinagar, March 18
Nine soldiers were among 10 injured when militants detonated a car blast on the Srinagar-Baramula bypass here today. The Hizbul Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for the blast.
The Inspector-General of Police, Mr K. Rajinder Kumar, said the militants had parked an explosive-laden car at the Rawalpora bypass. The explosive device was detonated as the security vehicle carrying soldiers reached the spot at around 9.20am.
Three soldiers and a civilian were injured in the blast, Mr Kumar said. However, a police note issued later said nine soldiers and a woman were injured. This was the second car blast in the valley this year.
