Member of Parliament Navjot Singh Sidhu feels that the Railway Minister has given a stepmotherly treatment to Punjab in the Railway Budget, presented yesterday. “It is a Budget aimed at securing votes. “Child’s brain is a clean slate and the parents write the script on it and later peers and still later teachers. Whatever the parents and others write, will be manifested by the child in his behavior. If the child is aggressive, throws tantrums , it would reflect on lack of attention being paid to the child,” said Dr Sanjay Chugh, a psychiatrist and expert on parenting from Delhi, while talking to mediapersons this afternoon.

Mason dies at work site
Khanna, February 25
An unidentified mason died and 5 labourers were injured while lifting the roof lintel in the house of Mr Jit Singh in Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar, here today. Mr Jit Singh had assigned the work of lifting the level of roof lintel to contractor Baljit Singh, son of Sher Singh, of Model Town. Baljit picked up a mason and five labourers from the labour market andbegan the job.

Case of cheating registered
Khanna, February 25
The Samrala police has registered a case under Sections 420 and 406 of the IPC against Harbans Singh, son of Mohinder Singh, and Rattan Singh, son of Bir Singh of Sultanpur, after the matter was investigated by the Economics Offences Wing on the complaint of Jaspal Singh, son of Pritam Singh of Arechan village.

BSNL introduces new schemes
Ludhiana, February 25
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has introduced a new scheme ‘One-India’ for its B-fone, WLL and mobile subscribers with a single rent of Rs 299 per month. The service will have a uniform STD call rate of Rs 1 per minute and a local call pulse of 180 seconds. The scheme will also be available for Excel subscribers with recharge coupon of Rs 799, having a talktime value of Rs 550 and validity of 30 days.

172 special kids to get helping aids
Doraha, February 25
A total of 172 physically challenged children of Doraha block have been registered under the ADIP and the Sarv Sikhiya Abhiyan for providing them with helping aids. The registration was done at a camp especially organised at Government Senior Secondary School, Payal, today. A team of doctors, including Dr Avtar Singh, Dr V.P. Soni, Dr Ravi Bala, Dr Puneet Sandhu and Dr Prabhjot Kaur, identified these children and registered them according to their disability.

“Don’t confuse human influenza with bird flu”

It is important not to confuse human cases of avian influenza with the cases of human influenza. The exact mode of transmission from birds to humans is not known, but most human cases of avian flu have been traced to direct contact with live infected birds or their droppings.

CMCH doctor Member of British Empire

Dr Reg Britt, a visiting consultant hematologist from UK at Christian Medical College and Hospital here, has recently been honoured by Queen Elizabeth with the honour of Member of British Empire (MBE) for his pioneering charitable work for the people of Punjab at CMCH. Dr Brit has been visiting CMCH since 1976 for various periods ranging from few weeks to few months.

221 polio booths set up
Sahnewal, February 25
A total of 221 polio booths have been set up and 43 supervisors deployed for Sahnewal block covering a population of more than five lakh persons. Dr S.S. Dhir, SMO, Sahnewal, informed this correspondent that other than booths, 10 mobile teams had been set up to cover the scattered areas and isolated pockets.
