Tribune News Service

Srinagar, February 5
Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has said a massive reconstruction programme in the quake-affected areas will be started from April to be completed in a time frame.

Mr Azad was addressing a public meeting today at Tangdhar, one of the worst-hit areas by the earthquake in Kupwara district, this being his tenth visit to the area since the quake on October 8 last year.

He has directed the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Mr Bashrat Ahmad, Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara, and other authorities to start preparing plans so that the reconstruction work in the quake-affected areas gets completed in time.

The Chief Minister announced free ration for February and March for quake-hit, adding that sufferers had already been given three months free ration as the Congress had provided one month’s free ration to the sufferers.

The local MLA, Mr Kafil-ur-Rehman of the opposition, National Conference, highlighted the efforts of Mr Azad in facing the challenge of earthquake devastation and himself overseeing every arrangement of rescue, relief and rehabilitation.

He appreciated the Chief Minister’s role that saved hundreds of lives and helped launch the relief and rehabilitation programmes successfully.
