Dist’s only govt hospital being run by five docs Panipat, January 30 With the state government having failed to appoint MOs, only five doctors have been running the institute for the past several months against the sanctioned
12 posts of doctor. According to sources, four doctors have been transferred to the ESI or other districts and their posts have not been filled. A visit to the hospital revealed a sorry state of affairs there. Sources informed The Tribune that the post of orthopaedic surgeon had been lying vacant for the past 10 months. A senior medico said they were facing tremendous pressure during emergency situations. Doctors in the hospital too admitted that orthopaedic surgeons were required urgently due to high number of road accidents on the busy GT Road. Around 10 cases of road accidents are reported on an average every day and these have to be referred to the PGI, Rohtak, about 85 km from here, or to private hospitals, owing to staff shortage. Similarly, there are no doctors in ENT, eye and dermatology sections. Also the gynaecology department lacks an expert. Interestingly, the hospital has been running without an anaesthetist for the past several years. A senior functionary of the hospital said patients were being advised to arrange private anaesthetist or doctor themselves. Dr Neh Lata Singh, CMO, was not available for comments but the sources said they had apprised the state authorities of the situation, yet nothing had been done.
