Cultural show: A cultural programme was organised at Government Senior Secondary School, Ikolaha, on Sunday by the local Guru Hargobind Sahib Welfare and Cultural Club. Ms Harbans Kaur Dullo, Parliamentary Secretary, was the chief guest. She announced a grant of Rs 11,000 for the club.

De-addiction camp
: A free mental health check-up and de-addiction camp will be organised by the Department of Psychiatry, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, at Gurdwara Guru Singh Sabha, Ranjodh Park, Haibowal Kalan, on Sunday. This was stated by Dr R.L. Narang, project chairman.

Varsity toppers
: The district administration, in association with NGO Pahal, organised the National Youth Day celebrations at DAV College here on Thursday. Thirtythree postgraduates and 25 graduates from various colleges of the city were honoured.

Electricity bills: Criticising the state government for not giving them “free power as assured”, the Pendu Mazdoor Union burnt electricity bills on Thursday in protest against the government.

Theatre
: The National Theatre Arts Society (NTAS) presented a gift cheque for Rs 5,100 to Dr Khushdeva Singh Leprosy Patients Colony here. The amount was donated by Rotarian S.K. Girdhar. This money is in addition to Rs 5,450 already gifted to Kusht Ashram.

Funds sanctioned: The Punjab Government has sanctioned Rs 18.33 crore under the Punjab Nirman Programme for schools, potable drinking water, improvement in hospitals, drinking water facilities and shed for stray animals in the district. Out of this sum Rs 12.38 crore will be spend in rural areas and Rs 5.95 crore in cities, informed today the Deputy Commissioner. Mr H.I.S. Garewal, after holding a meeting with officials here.

Lohri celebrated: Staff members of the Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran, on Thursday celebrated Lohri at their campus with enthusiasm. A dance party was organised by the staff. Bhangra, gidda and other cultural items were performed by the staff members.

Lohri function: Lohri was celebrated with enthusiasm by members of the Residents Welfare Association (7.5 marla houses), Phase III B-1 here on Wednesday. According to Mr M.S. Tumbar, general secretary, various competitions were organised on the occasion. Races were organised for children of different age troups. A fancy dress competition was held for children below five years.

Ambala
AIDS awareness
: An AIDS awareness rally was taken out by school students in the city on Thursday. The Deputy Commissioner, Ambala, Mr J.P. Kaushik, said there was a need to generate awareness about major issues from an early age. He said issues like AIDS and female foeticide need to be addressed on a priority basis. Mr Kaushik flagged off an AIDS and female foeticide awareness rally from Panchayat Bhavan. The rally was organised by the Lions Club Supreme.

6 hurt in mishap : Six persons were injured when the three-wheeler in which they were travelling overturned near the bus stand here on Thursday. The injured were taken to Civil Hospital, Ambala Cantonment.
