BSP MP moves SC against expulsion
Legal Correspondent

New Delhi, January 2
BSP MP Raja Ram, expelled from the Lok Sabha for his “involvement” in the “cash for query” scam and subsequently suspended from the party, today moved the Supreme Court to challenge his expulsion from the House.

He filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court Registry through his counsel K.S. Chauhan, challenging the decision of the Lok Sabha expelling him. But his counsel refused to divulge the details about the main legal points raised by him in the writ petition, saying it would not be proper to discuss the same before the matter was heard by the court.

He indicated that he might make a mention about filing of the petition and for its early hearing tomorrow, with a plea for an interim relief against his client’s expulsion from the Lok Sabha.

The Lok Sabha, by a resolution, had expelled all 10 MPs of different parties from the House following a report by a Special Committee set up by the Speaker under Mr Pawan Kumar Bansal to probe the “cash for query” scam.

The committee had examined the video tapes of the sting operation, showing the MPs taking money on camera for raising questions in the House, questioned journalist Anirudh Bahal, who undertook the sting operation to expose them and heard the MPs’ viewpoints.

Of the 10 expelled MPs, 5 belonged to the BJP, 3 to the BSP and one each to the Congress and the RJD. One BJP MP from the Rajya Sabha was also expelled by the Ethics Committee of the House.
