SAD, Congress pitted against each other
Jalandhar, November 15 According to sources the two parties have decided to divide post of Managing Director for the Congress party candidate, post of Chairman to the Shiromani Akali Dal and the post of Vice-Chairman with an independent candidate. The Congress party tired of the infighting in its ranks was forced to reach a pact with the SAD camp, add sources. The elections to the post of Director were held on May 10 last, in which both Congress as well as SAD candidates won from seven areas each. Meanwhile the infighting in the Congress ranks was exposed as the two favourites for the top post Anil Dutta said to be Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s and District Congress Committee (Rural) president Rajinder Singh Johal close to the Noormahal MLA Gurvinder Singh Atwal, belonging to camp opposing the chief minister, stepped up their attack on each other. As a result of the infighting the elections could not be held so far. The Chief Minister’s last visit to the city this month was
significant factor in speeding up the process as the CM met some of his confidantes. The Cooperative bank swung in action and fixed November 16 as the date for the elections. |
RCF seeks nod to make metro-rail coaches
First-ever export
consignment sent
The RCF, Kapurthala, today rolled out its first-ever export consignment to Myanmar. The order of 20 coaches was worth Rs 19.26 crore. The GM said the remaining consignment of 16 coaches would be rolled out by January 2006.
Kapurthala, November 15 The General Manager of the RCF, Mr Yash Pal Gupta, said this during an interaction with The Tribune on the occasion of the flagging off of the first-ever export consignment of 20-metre gauge coaches from the factory. The coaches were rolled out to Chennai today, from where these would be shipped to Myanmar on November 25. The GM said he had put forward the metro-rail coach proposal before the Ministry of Railways that would take up the matter with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). However, he said, he was yet to receive any consent in that regard. He said the DMRC was currently getting the metro coaches from a Bangalore-based company that was getting the rail coaches manufactured from Korea. He said since the demand for metro-rail coaches was on an increase and the RCF was capable of handling such orders, he was optimistic about getting the sanction. “The demand for metro coaches is expected to be around 1250 coaches annually by the year 2011,” he added. The GM said the RCF had increased its production since the last few months. “While we had been rolling out 102 coaches per month till April this year, the production had gone up to 126 coaches in July, 131 coaches in September and 154 coaches in October, making a total tally of 800-plus coaches since the start of the current financial year. We hope to cross the 1300-mark this year against the target of 1261 coaches,” he added. The GM said the RCF was expanding its overseas sales of metre gauge to South-East Asian and African countries. “An order of 60 multipurpose A/C units of coaches is expected to come from Senegal and Mali soon. An agreement with the government of Sudan is also in the offing,” he added. |
