Two degrees on completion of one course!
Jalandhar, October 24 Those interested in completing the second half of their studies in Australia would have a chance to go abroad, a practice somewhat similar to the one being adopted by many immigration agencies across the country. An agreement in this regard was signed by Ms Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, Minister for Technical Education, Punjab, during her visit to Sydney last month. However, the modalities of the course would be worked out during a high-powered meeting to be held in Chandigarh tomorrow. The meeting is likely to be attended by Principal Secretary, Secretary, Director and Deputy Director of the Department of Technical Education, Dr S.K. Salwan, Vice-Chancellor of the PTU, Mr R.S. Khandpur, a PTU-BOG member and Director General, Pushpa Gujral Science City, and Mr K.S. Mann, Director of the Canadian Institute for International Studies (CIIS), Mohali. Sources in the department reveal that though BTech is one of the few courses that are likely to be considered for “dual degree programme”, other new employment-oriented courses that are in demand globally are also being considered. An MOU in this regard may also be signed between the PTU and the TAFE Global soon for various forms of cooperation such as designing of practical and theoretical modules, conduct of teachers’ training programme, developing industrial linkages and planning visits to India and Australia annually. Significantly, the CIIS, which is instrumental in getting the tie-ups arranged, is already conducting courses in information technology and nursing through Georgian College and Fanshawe College, Canada, and is publicising about the same through its sister concern World Wide Immigration Consultancy Services (WWICS) that has centres located in various parts of the state. Interestingly, the PTU has already been a partner with the CIIS, at least for the last three years. As per an MOU signed between the authorities of the university and the Mohali-based institute, the PTU authorities are providing Indian equivalents of the CIIS computer and business studies programmes. The Computer Programmer Analyst course and the Business Administration-Automative Marketing course of the institute are considered the equivalents to the BCA and the BBA programmes of the PTU, respectively, and the students even have an option to clear an examination conducted by the PTU to avail of a “dual certification” from the CIIS and the PTU.
