Ragging case: 9 students get police remand Jalandhar, October 20 Chief Judicial Magistrate K.K. Kareer remanded the nine students in police custody for two days. Namita, the only girl named in the suicide note, and Rahul, named by Amit’s father in the FIR, could not been arrested yet. The arrests, however, have not brought relief to the family of Amit which is still skeptical about the police investigation. It has decided to complain to the President, the National Human Rights Commission and the president of the Army Wives Welfare Association for handing over the inquiry to the CBI. The father of Amit, Mr Triveni Sahai, has expressed dissatisfaction over the police role in the case and has demanded CBI inquiry into the case. “I hold the management of the institute responsible for the loss of my child’s life and demand that action must be taken against the Director and the Registrar of the institute,” he said. He said,“ The role of the police and the institute was dubious. The fact that a suicide note had been found was hidden from us for three days and the lock of the almirah, which was found intact by a television camera team, was found broken later when I went inside the room. I could not even find clothes and other belongings of my child from the room,” he alleged. Mr Lakha Singh, SHO, confirmed the arrests. The forensic report of the handwriting record of Amit was yet to come, he said. The police could not find two other persons named in the case, he added. |
