Mulayam sets up panel to probe Mau riots Lucknow, October 17 Announcing this at a press conference, Mr Yadav said the enquiry will look into all aspects of the communal violence and no guilty person would be spared. Turning down BJP’s demand of handing over Mau to the army, the Chief Minister said that there was no need for such a measure as the situation in the strife-torn city was fast returning to normal. Mr Yadav said that
until peace returns no political leader would be allowed to enter Mau, be it a public representative or a party leader. Mr Yadav thanked Governor T.V. Rajeswar for postponing his Mau visit scheduled for Monday. The Chief Minister informed that on Sunday evening, he had explained to the Governor that such a visit would shift the attention of the security personnel and the district
administration. Meanwhile, Mau remained largely peaceful on Monday, with no untoward incident being reported till evening. The curfew and shoot-at-sight order continued. On Sunday, Chief Minister had announced the suspension of the Varanasi Divisional Commissioner D.D. Singh, DIG Prabhat Kumar, Mau DM Hiramani Singh Yadav, SSP Akhilesh Kumar Mishra and in-charge of Mau Kotwali police station B.L. Paswan. Mukesh Meshram and Sujit Pandey have been appointed the new DM and SSP respectively. “Despite being given sufficient time these officials were not carrying on their duties honestly,”
