UPA govt’s track record worst: Advani
Palampur, October 9 Talking to newspersons after addressing a well-attended public meeting at the historic Capt Vikram Batra park, Mr Advani said the country was concerned about the Central Government’s report card as the UPA government had been indicted by the Supreme Court on the issues of foreign immigrants from Bangladesh, reservation of seats for minorities in AMU and last but not on holding of imposition of President’s rule in Bihar as “unconstitutional”. Describing the verdict of the Supreme Court as a “judicial earthquake”, Mr Advani said it had blackened the Government’s face as Asian Age Editor M J Akbar had gone to the extent of demanding President APJ Abdul Kalam’s resignation. “Though I don’t agree with the demand of the President’s resignation, it only highlights the enormity of indictment”, Mr Advani observed. The BJP leader said the SC verdict had led to demands of resignation of not only Bihar Governor Buta Singh but also of Home Minister Shivraj Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. While the Prime Minister had said he did not disown the responsibility, but no action had flown out of the
statement, Mr Advani said, wondering at Dr Singh’s expression. Mr Patil must step down, Mr Advani said. Referring to the UPA government’s reaction to KGB papers of Mitrokhin Archives, the BJP president called it as a “mega exposure” which is “worst than corruption” as the political leaders were “trying to trade off the country’s sovereignty for political advantage”. Earlier going down the memory lane of the BJP journey in the past 25 years, Mr Advani called the adoption of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple issue on the party agenda at Palampur in June 1989 as an important milestone in the brief history of the party which helped it to grow from the strength of two Lok Sabha MPs in 1984 to 86 MPs in 1989 general election. The party went on to become the ruling party at the Centre and held power in Himachal Pradesh, he said, and reminded the audience that it was only possible after the historic meeting in Palampur. In an indirect reference to the ongoing crisis in the party, Mr Advani said the BJP had taken problems in stride and had stumbled and risen again. He asked party workers to take the party to new heights. Earlier, he parried question about who will be the next BJP chief. The public meeting was also addressed by former Himachal Chief Ministers Shanta Kumar, P K Dhumal and BJP state president Suresh Bharadwaj. Both Mr Shanta Kumar as well Mr Dhumal lashed out at the Virbhadra government for imposing taxes on the people which causing heavy burden on the people. Mr Kumar said the Congress government in Shimla had lost people’s confidence and it would be trounced in the next Assembly elections. |

He said over Rs 100 crore was needed for the fully functioning of the medical college and hospital. He said he was in touch with various agencies who would provide financial assistance to the trust. Earlier, Mr Advani was given warm welcome by the BJP workers at Gaggal airport. Mr. Shanta Kumar, Prem Kumar Dhumal, former Chief Minister, Suresh Bhardwaj, state president of the BJP and Kripal Parmar, MP, besides number of BJP MLAs, were present to receive Mr Advani. First-of-its-kind TB lab in offing
Kumarhatti, October 9 The lab has requisite infrastructure to demarcate the multi-drug resistance (MDR) cases from the normal TB patients. The MDR is an advanced stage of TB where patients require multi-drugs treatment being prescribed through culture tests diagnosis. The Dharampur TB sanatorium is the central point for patients from all over North India particularly from hilly remote areas. The lack of lab was a negative point of the sanatorium, as patients had to wait for long to get report of a culture test, available at very high cost, from New Delhi. Often the long delay in getting diagnosis report proved fatal for patients. The Deputy Director General of Central TB Division at New Delhi along with other officials visited the sanatorium and inspected the new building that was constructed to house lab. He also inspected about the capacity and size of equipments to be installed in the lab building. All equipments, worth Rs 30 lakh, would be arranged by the central division. Mr Chauhan has assured to send an expert team soon so that the final process to start the lab be facilitated. Meanwhile the housing board has not yet handed over the lab building to MDR Treatment Society due to non-settlement of expenditure incurred on the construction of building. The MDR society, formed under the chairmanship of DC, Solan, to provide free of cost medical treatment to MDR cases had initially projected the building cost at around Rs 8 lakh. However, as per the housing board the actual construction cost was Rs 10 lakh. As per office-bearers of the society, the matter would be solved soon after the meeting of governing board of the MDR society. |

Cong has reneged on poll promises, says Dhumal
Palampur, October 9 Addressing mediapersons this afternoon, he alleged that the Congress government had come to power by making false promises. He said it had assured the youth that it would open new avenues of employment and at least one member from each family would be given job.
