Government to import LPG
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, October 6
Admitting scarcity of LPG cylinders’ in the domestic market, the government today decided to increase the imports of liquid fuel to meet the temporary shortage during the ongoing festival season.

“There is a temporary shortage of LPG supply due to closure of the Reliance refinery since October 4 in Jamnagar for maintenance work and nationwide strike on September 29. The supply will be normal by Monday as oil companies have been asked to lift all restrictions on the supply of domestic cylinders,” said Petroleum Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar after an emergency meeting with the officials of the oil marketing companies.

He said there was no cause of panic as the national oil companies would provide adequate quantity of fuel in the next few days to meet the domestic requirement.

“By October 10, IOC, HPCL and BPCL will all produce the required amount of LPG. So I see there is no cause for panic.”
