RAW chief gets 2-year extension

New Delhi, October 3
The government today gave a two-year extension of service to RAW chief P K H Tharakan till January 31, 2007, or until further orders, an official statement said here. Mr Tharakan, a 1968 batch IPS officer of the Kerala cadre, was appointed Chief of the External Intelligence Agency on January 31 this year. He was to retire in June, but was given an extension till September 30.

The government also announced three other senior-level appointments. Mr B.S. Lalli, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development, has been appointed Secretary, Ministry of Panchayati Raj, on the retirement of Mr Wajahat Habibullah.

Mrs Charusheela Sohoni has been appointed Chairman, Tariff Commission, while Mr Gajinder Singh Sahni has been upgraded in his present post of Director-General Shipping, to the rank and pay of Secretary.
