Kurukshetra, October 3
Over 10 lakh pilgrims today took a dip in the Brahm and Sannehit sarovars on the occasion of the solar eclipse between 4.20 pm and 5.23 pm in the historical town of Kurukshetra, known as Dharamkshetra, on Monday.

Pilgrims, about 60 per cent of them women, came in jam-packed buses, trains and other vehicles. Several devotees were also seen sitting on the rooftops of buses and trains. Young and aged, infirm and able-bodied could be seen jostling to reach the two sarovars. Several devotees were also seen coming on tongas. Pilgrims started converging here yesterday. Their number swelled as the eclipse time came close.

Devotees could be seen praying to the eclipsed sun on the banks of the two sarovars. Pilgrims in clusters brought in the flavour of their provinces. Discourses and bhajans continued during the eclipse. A large number of pilgrims spent almost the entire day on the banks, praying. As the moon began to eclipse the sun at 4.20 pm, the sound of conch shells and temple bells began to rise from the temples. Raising slogans of ‘Bam Bam Bole’, ‘Surya Dev ki Jai and Har Har Maha Dev’, the devotees jumped into the sarovars for taking holy dip.

As the eclipse ended, pilgrims rushed towards the parking lots. The police had a hard time in controlling the crowds on the Birla Mandir road. The police had to use ropes to push pilgrims to the walls of the Birla Mandir.

On the VIP Ghat of the Braham local MP Naveen Jindal, former Youth Congress president M.S. Bitta, local MLA Ramesh Gupta and INLD state president Ashok Arora and several civil and police officers took a holy dip.

Bhiwani, October 3
Even though senior leaders of the ruling Congress party avoid to discuss factionalism in the state unit and even go on to rubbish groupism, but a meeting held to pay homage to nation’s father Mahatma Gandhi, on the occasion of the Gandhi Jayanti yesterday here at the Rajput dharmshala showed the real face of factionalism.

Almost all leaders were present in the meeting and Bhiwani MP Kuldip Bishnoi was the chief guest. In presence of Mr Bishnoi, the leaders, just to appease Bhajan Lal’s son, lashed at Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. They said that the present head of the council would certainly be changed in near future.

Most of the Congress leaders said that the party won the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections with a tremendous margin under the dynamic leadership of Mr Bhajan Lal.

These leaders, including both district presidents (rural and urban units), instead of remembering Mahatma Gandhi and his works flayed the state leadership. They said that the law and order situation in the state was deteriorating.

However, Mr Bishnoi did not even comment on the working of the state government in his speech, but several speakers even expressed resentment against all seven legislators of the district in their addresses.

ZP members want Hisar MP sacked from Congress
Tribune News Service

Hisar, October 3
Mr Ramesh Dukhi, a Congress-supported member of the local Zila Parishad, has demanded that Hisar MP, Jai Prakash, be sacked from the Congress for his alleged anti-party activities.

Levelling serious allegations against the Congress MP, Mr Dukhi accused him of working against party’s interest and stopping the grant of Zila Parishad members. He asserted that if the grant was not released within 72 hours, all main roads of the district would be blocked in protest.

Endorsing the stance, Deputy Chairman of the parishad, Ranbir Gangwa, alleged that Mr Jai Prakash was trying to settle old scores with parishad members as the candidate of his choice could not get the parishad chief’s post. They were addressing a news conference here today.

The parishad members maintained that if their demands were not met, they would take the matter to Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, and Congress president, Ms Sonia Gandhi.

Mr Jai Prakash could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
